Dear Parents,

How was your week? Ours was positive, but it went quickly! Thanks again for all of your support and encouragement! It makes such a big difference when parents take the time to talk to their kids about school and other things going on in their lives. What a great way to let your child know how much he/she is loved!

School picture day is upon us! Next Friday is the day for fifth graders, so be ready. Envelopes detailing packages available for you to purchase went home last week. Each child will have his/her picture taken for the yearbook whether or not a purchase is made.

As we enter the third week of the school year, I’d like to encourage you to continue asking your child about our daily work and his/her progress. You should still be seeing the blue planner EVERY day even if the work is completed. Please ask about it and talk with your child to find out how he/she is progressing with fifth grade responsibilities. Thank you very much for your support.

As of two years ago, there is a precautionary step in the process of volunteering to help with our school activities. Since we all want to make sure your child is safely supervised, we are asking everyone who volunteers at WSE to complete a background check form to be turned in and kept on file in the office in advance of the anticipated volunteer events. This form is necessary if you plan to help with Student Council Fun Nights, chaperone field trips, or help at holiday parties (to name just a few). If you completed one last year, you do not need another one since they are good for two years. If you haven’t completed the form or it has been two years, please let me know and I’ll send one home with your child. Thanks for your cooperation in keeping all of the kids safe. Please let me know if you have any questions about this. I’d be happy to answer them!

Last, but not least, our ArtPrize Field Trip has been moved a day earlier. It will now take place on Thursday, October 6. A sheet with information and a permission slip is enclosed in today’s folder. Please send back the slip as soon as possible (by next Friday) along with your written request to chaperone if you’d like to. The trip is free and should be a lot of fun! If you have any questions, let me know.

Enjoy your weekend!

Jennifer Loomis

P.S. Reminder: Mileage Club Kickoff is next Friday! We’d love for you to join us!
