Dear Parents,

How was your week? Ours was very positive! We are off to a running start with our MEAP tests. We are done with the reading tests and continue with the math and science portions next week. Please be sure to ask your child how he/she feels about testing so far. I hope you’re as encouraged as I am! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! (Behind every successful, confident kid is a caring, supportive parent!) :)

Your child’s Midterm Progress Report is enclosed in today’s folder. If report cards came out today, these would be your child’s grades. Please take time to thoroughly discuss them with your child, and ask if he/she took advantage of all opportunities to improve. Please also ask your child about late/missing work. There are still several weeks left in the trimester and plenty of time for grades to change. Your active involvement in your child’s education makes a significant impact on his/her life. Thank you.

Just so you know, our annual “Make a Difference Day” is next Saturday (Oct. 22). We will be raking leaves for a couple of hours beginning at 9:00 a.m. I’d like to encourage all of you, and not just those whose kids will be running for Student Council, to participate. Hopefully, you can bring your family and join us!

Is anyone up for a swim? This year, fifth graders will be swimming in Phys. Ed. classes every day the week of October 24. A letter from Mrs. Nieuwenhuis with more information is enclosed in today’s folder. If you are interested in helping, please call the school or drop me a note or email. :)

On Monday, October 31, we will be having a Halloween parade beginning at 3:10 p.m. Your kids will have a chance to get into their costumes shortly before that. Please remember that violent or bloody costumes are not allowed. Thanks so much for your cooperation. It should be a fun afternoon!

Last, but not least, our Washington Street Fall Fest (Open House) is on Tuesday! I am very excited to meet those of you I have not met and to see other familiar faces as well! Please see the school newsletter for more information.

That about does it for today! I hope you have a great weekend!

Jennifer Loomis
