August 2, 2011 Dear Parents and Students, With the school year right around the corner, we'd like to welcome you to fifth grade at Washington Street and introduce ourselves. Our names are Jennifer Loomis, Laura Olweean, and Lori Smalldon, and we are very excited to teach your child! No matter whose homeroom he/she is in, your child will have a chance to experience all of our classrooms. This is because we “switch” classes daily. Mrs. Olweean will teach science, Miss Loomis will teach social studies, and Mrs. Smalldon will teach Quest, which includes a variety of subjects including spelling, rewiring, and typing. This will help better prepare your child for middle school as well as provide additional learning opportunities. As you begin to prepare for the school year, there are a few additional things to keep in mind. If you plan to purchase school supplies, a list of helpful items is included on the back of this letter. Otherwise, a limited supply is available for use in the classroom. We will provide each student with subject folders and a daily planner so you don’t need to purchase either of those. We are looking forward to meeting all of you parents at our Fifth Grade Orientation on Wednesday, August 31, from 5:30-6:15 p.m. We will be highlighting some important information that will help you to help your child get off to a good start this school year. Also our Washington Street Fall Fest (formerly Open House) will happen on Thursday, October 18. It will be an evening of food, fun, and fellowship for our entire Washington Street family! We hope to see you at both of these important events! Sincerely, Jennifer Loomis
