Instead of digging through
that old recipe box, why not put your favorite recipes online? That's
what I did! It's much easier for me to just fire up the computer and have
recipes at my fingertips. Below are some of my favorites. Test them out,

Three
Bean Salad By Grandma G. and Mom |
This recipe reminds me of a familiar scene at my Grandma's house in Indiana. It goes something like this... It's mid-summer. I just finished playing a game of double-solitaire with my Grandma in the living room. It's not dinner time yet, but the urge for a snack is there. My Mom looks at me with a grin, and I realize what she's thinking. Both of us look over at Grandma with the same hopeful grin. Grandma says, "Oh, alright, but don't eat all of it before dinner." She gets up and leads us into the kitchen where we grab forks and little bowls, and share some memories over three bean salad. Nothing like it... |

Reunion
White Chicken Chili By Melanie Waltz |
This recipe is called "Reunion" White Chicken Chili because it brought together two adult twins who had previously never met each other. Separated at birth, raised by two different families, on two different continents, Ima and Ura Lucky finally came face to face with the twin neither knew she had. While auditioning for then upcoming Survivor 9, both simultaneously reached for a bowl of the complimentary chili. Looking up, the twins met each other's eyes and felt as though they were looking into a mirror. Ima and Ura instantly embraced, knowing in their hearts that they were related. Several bowls of chili later, the two were close friends and vowed to never lose contact with each other. Both got the recipe of the chili from the show's producer who claimed it was originally created by his son's former 7th grade teacher. In an interesting twist, this teacher is my friend and neighbor and lives right here in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She has graciously allowed me to publish her recipe with the hope that it will inspire others to "grab a bowl of chili and find a long lost loved one." God bless her. |

German Vegetables
(adapted from a recipe shared by an old church friend of hers) |
Ah, Thanksgiving! What a marvelous time to gather with family and friends and thank the Lord for the amazing blessings He's given to us! Every day should be Thanksgiving if you ask me. In my family, Thanksgiving is also a dinner where everyone contributes a dish to the meal. My Mom and I do the turkey and homemade stuffing, my Dad makes awesome pecan and pumpkin pies, my brother always mashes MOUNTAINS of potatoes, and my sister-in-law makes delicious broccoli casserole. My niece and nephew contribute rolls, fruit salad, and the relish tray. My Mom fills in the gaps with homemade cranberry sauce and gravy. (I don't know who really makes the sweet potatoes and other dishes that seem to appear each year!) My traditional offering is German Vegetables. I hope it takes you to a place of Thanksgiving as it does for me. |
