Recently our Washington Street reporter interviewed Miss Loomis to find out what she is really like.  Miss Loomis was also asked several important questions.  Her responses in that interview are below.

WSE:  Do you like being a teacher?

Miss L:  I love being a teacher.

WSE:  How long have you been teaching?

Miss L:  I'm starting my twenty-seventh year.  Wow...has it been that long?

WSE:  I guess time flies when you're having fun!

Miss L:  You've got that right!

WSE:  So, where did you go to college?

Miss L:  I earned my undergraduate degree at Western Michigan University and my Master's Degree at Michigan State.

WSE:  That's great!  Do you mind if I ask you some personal questions?

Miss L: No problem.  I can always "pass", right? (chuckle)

WSE:  Sure.  What are some activities you like to do when you're not in school?

Miss L:  Well, I really enjoy sports...both watching and playing them.  I enjoy participating in both Fantasy Football and Fantasy Baseball Leagues.  I also love reading, although I don't read very fast so it takes me a little longer than some people.  I enjoy hanging out with my friends, too, and playing with my dogs, going to Christian concerts, going to baseball games, etc.

ASE:  It sounds like you have a lot of interests!  Is there anything you don't especially enjoy?

Miss L:  Shopping!  I know that's probably not what you expected, but I never really have liked shopping.  Sometimes I go with my Mom, though, since we get to spend time together.

WSE:  You said you had dogs.  What kind are they?  What are their names?

Miss L:  They are a mix between a cocker spaniel and poodle called a cockapoo.  Their names are Chipper and Gizmo. They are fun to play with and watch, especially when the sprinklers are on! Chip is the more mischievous one, but Giz is not far behind. They love to play outside and track animals. Over the summer, they even trapped a chipmunk in the downspout on the side of the house by biting it shut...the downspout that is. (Argh.) Yes, I saved the chipmunk, but the boys got a timeout for the stress they caused me! I'm sure you'll hear more stories about them.

WSE:  They sound like fun!  You also mentioned that you like sports.  Which ones are your favorites?

Miss L:  I love all kinds of sports.  My favorites to play are basketball, softball, and golf.  My favorites to watch are football, baseball, and college basketball.  (I also love to watch synchronized swimming and water polo! )

WSE:  What kinds of music do you like?

Miss L:  Like I said earlier, I love Christian music.  I really love Christian rap & hip/hop, although people around me don't always appreciate it like I do.  I like singers/groups like Toby Mac, Mandisa, Jamie Grace, Big Daddy Weave, and others.  I listen to 99.3WJQ (from Holland) when I'm in the area of school and KLove online.  I love loud music (did I say that?) with a beat and a positive message.  I try to have "good stuff" go in my head so "good stuff" is what comes back out to others.

WSE:  Good thought.  Maybe I'll check out those stations.

Miss L:  I bet you'd like what you heard!

WSE:  I just have some last quick questions to ask you.  If it's okay with you, I'll shoot them out like this was a lightning round of a game.  Sound good?

Miss L:  Sure!

WSE:  What are your favorite foods?

Miss L:  Nachos, chips & salsa, most anything on the grill, lima beans (for real), macaroni & cheese, cookies!

WSE:  Least favorite?

Miss L:  Definitely creamed corn.

WSE:  How old are you?

Miss L:  49.  (Whoa.) Yes, I am old enough to run for President.  Yikes!

WSE:  Where did you grow up?

Miss L:  I grew up mostly in Midland.  I have also lived in Ludington and Miami, Florida.

WSE:  Do you have any siblings?

Miss L:  Yes, I have one younger brother.  His name is Robb.  His wife is named Julie.  They have two kids, Carly and Jack.  I love them very much.  I also grew up having several (27) foster babies in my family.  We got to take care of them before they were adopted.  I do consider some others as members of my "family" including close family friends named Rob and Jay (who I think of as little brothers) and my close friend's daughters, Grace and Elli.  I am very blessed to have them all in my life.

WSE:  What are your parents' names?

Miss L:  Bob and Judy, but I call them Mom and Dad!   They're pretty cool parents!  I am very thankful for them as well.

WSE:  What are some of the best books you've ever read?

Miss L:  The best of all time was the Holy Bible.  I have also enjoyed From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, Left Behind (the series), To Kill a Mockingbird, Wonder, Same but Different, and Walk Two Moons.  I enjoy reading Newbery Winners, too. I'm sure there are more; I'm just not thinking of them right now.

WSE:  What's your favorite TV show?

Miss L:  I try not to watch TV all the time.  I do like watching SportsCenter, though, and any NFL game. The other shows I try to catch are NCIS, The Goldbergs, and Beat Shazam.

WSE:  Now for the last question.  Others put me up to this, so remember I'm just following directions!  When are you getting married?

Miss L:  Ahaaa!  I had a feeling you saved a good one! (laugh)  Well, here you go.  I'm getting married when I meet a Christian man with the same values I have.  I am trying to be patient for what the Lord wants for my life, but if you see Prince Charming around, please send him my way!

WSE:  I'll be on the lookout!

Miss L:  Thanks!

WSE:  That ends our interview.  Thanks a lot, Miss Loomis.

Miss L:  Thank you, JB.
